I am writing to you today on behalf of the Bayou Region Foster & Adoptive Parent Association. We serve the Terrebonne, Lafourche, St. John, St. James, St. Charles, and Assumption Parish foster youth and their families. We are committed to serving the youth by opening a local foster closet in our area.
May was National Foster Care Appreciation Month and June is National Reunification Month. We are still in the process of trying to find a local business or organization in the Houma or Thibodaux area who would be willing to donate a vacant building to be used as the home of the Foster Closet that we are opening for the youth in our area. It will be set up like a store to give the foster youth an opportunity to come in and “shop” for their new items. It will also be used for storage to accommodate our donations, any overflow, and to hold items that are not in season.
There is over
600 youth in the Lafourche
and Terrebonne Parish foster care
system. Each day
approximately 230 families serve these children. We keep these children in our minds and hearts as they come in and out of our homes and do our best to assist them in every way. When a child is pulled from their home, they often arrive into the foster family scared and confused with nothing more than the clothes on their back. These children need a place where they can choose their own clothes, comfort items & basic toiletries; a place where they feel safe and understood. That is where the Bayou Region Foster Closet comes in!
We feel fortunate to have this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our local youth. We challenge you to assist us in meeting our goal to help the foster youth of our community. Your donations would be tax-deductible as we are a non-profit organization. Thank you for all of your support and we look forward to working with you in the near future. Thank you for all of your support!
